Generally, when I suggest a primer to customers when I'm working on counter, they always think I'm trying to sell to them but I promise you- I'M NOT. For those who aren't sure what primers are used for, allow me to explain:
Some time ago I took a picture of make up with and without primer. Even though I could definitely see the difference when looking in the mirror, my pictures didn't do it any justice so I decided not to post it. However, my cousin sent me an image of someone demonstrating the power of primers in such a unique and creative way, I just had to try it myself and show you guys! I have used an oil-free medium coverage foundation for this. Notice the HUGE difference between both sides. The primer side (left) looks smoother and less textured. The other side looks porous and a lot more textured. An orange resembles the texture of human skin quite well, thats why I thought this picture would be so effective. You can see how the primer covers and helps smooth out areas of the face which foundation/concealer/powder may not be able to reach. If you've never tried a primer before, I suggest you go to your nearest make up counter and ask for a sample- you will see the results immediately Ciao!
