DIY Custom Lip Palette

5/6/2017

I'm going to show you how EASY it is to save a lot of space in your make up draw/kit! No need to try and fit all your lipsticks in that bloody 100ml plastic bag at the airport! You can take all of them with in one compact way.

This is a little secret us MUAs use to make more room in our suitcases/vanity cases.. it also saves us from breaking our backs on the job too!

What you need:
- empty lip palette (you can find these online for real cheap. You can also go to M.A.C. Cosmetics
-Your favourite lipsticks
-a tablespoon
-baby wipes
-scissors/small knife
-cotton buds
-an old candle
- newspaper/old magazines to cover the surface

TOP TIPS:
  • Don't be scared to chop your lipsticks! They will be ok I promise
  •  Before you wipe the excess lipsticks off the spoon - remember it's VERY HOT so be careful
  • Don't be afraid to mix your lipsticks up - if one compartment overfills, put it in the other and then maybe mix the next lipstick with it to create your very own unique colour
  •   When wiping around the sides - wait a minute or so until the liquid hardens a little - its much easier to wipe it off clean that way.
  • as you can see from the tutorial, spillages happen- don't worry about it looking perfect!
  • Try to have similar shades next to each other.. i.e. Keep reds with reds, pinks with pinks etc

You'll be looking like a make up pro in no time ;)

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick Review

11/7/2016

I'm definitely seeing a liquid lipstick craze for 2016! This time, I'm testing out Kat Von D's new Liquid Lipsticks.
So I took a little detour on the way to work and I ended up at the Kat Von D counter that is exclusively in Debenhams, Oxford Street.

First of all - the packaging.

Picture
Its slick, and I love the design of the whole thing. The variety of shades were amazing, and not your 'typical' pinks, reds and nudes. I was going to buy a navy blue but then I thought 'hmmm would I really where this out?!' so I opted for a gorgeous vamp-y shade called 'Damned- Black Cherry' which is a really deep dark plum - almost black! GORGE.
Right, what did I think of the product?
- When I first put it on, the colour was a lot lighter than the I expected. So I layered it on a couple more times and I got the desired shade I wanted. The consistency wasn't sticky whatsoever which I was surprised about. Really nice and smooth, without the feel of a thick gloopy layer on my lips. I remember the retail artist mentioning that the colour gets darker when it starts drying and OH MY GOD it totally did! My lips were almost black but I LOVED it.
- So I put it to the 'eating' test to see whether it had good staying-power. Surprisingly IT DID! yey! Compared to the Huda Beauty Liquid Lipsticks, it definitely stayed more in tact after a meal.
- Hardly had to re-apply which again - GREAT
- Lips didn't feel dry or didn't dry out after an hour or two.
- RRP. £16. Compared to other brands, I would say its not too bad of a price point. Cheaper than Huda.
- Quite difficult to take off even with a good waterproof make up remover, it smeared all around my mouth. Not sure if thats a good thing?!

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara Review

9/24/2016

Hey Guys!

When you're working for any Estee Lauder company, its so easy to fall into just those brands and forget theres other great products from other brands out there!

I thought I'd invest into a Dior mascara seeing as I'be heard great things about all of them! I chose Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara seeing as I've never used a 'curled' wand before and I was just curious to see if its any good! Im not an 'eyelash girl' where I have to have perfect voluminous defined lashes everyday or feel the need to wear fake ones everyday.

So.. the type of lashes I have are very typically 'indian' in terms of they're thick and long, but just extremely straight. If I reeeeally wanted to I could make my lashes look magnificent everyday but tbh when Im on the train doing my make up before heading onto counter, I literally spend 1 minute on them because I just don't have the time!

Back to the review..

Love the luxurious packaging and I felt really comfortable holding it to apply onto my lashes.
Picture

As you can see below, the way the wand is shaped I really thought yey this is going to help curl my stupid straight lashes
Picture

Here is a before and after of my lashes when I applied the mascara! I have used Shu Uemura lash curlers (they are totally worth the hype btw)

BEFORE
Picture
As you can see I wasn't kidding when I said my lashes were super straight!

AFTER

Picture
PROS
- This mascara did exactly want I wanted it to do! Was super easy to build them up without the clumpiness!
- Each lash looks defined and fluttery which is so good for my type of lashes
- The shape of the wand really helped me get right into the root and curl up
- Really good for bottom lashes!
- Not much effort was needed to get my lashes looking like this.
CONS

- Quite pricey for something you have to replace every 6 weeks!! (£25.00)

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick

9/8/2016

Hey there guys!
Today I'm reviewing the must-have lipstick that everyone wants to get their hands on - Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick
Just a quick summary of Huda Beauty if you don't know already. So Huda Kattan is possibly the biggest Beauty Blogger on the scene right now and has managed to build an empire from her popularity on social media. No idea when she came onto the BB scene but its crazy how much of a following she has. Her constant retweets and mentions to show appreciation for other MUAs/hairstylists/nail artists work has allowed the Huda brand to become the biggest beauty hub on social media. '#Hudabeauty' is a staple hashtag people use when they're posting anything thats associated with beauty on Instagram - imagine that?!
Anyways, moving on she first launched her Huda Lashes which took the world by storm and everyone was after them. Her second addition to her cosmetic line are her Liquid Matte Lipsticks. They're exclusively sold at Harrods so i made a trip to see what the fuss was all about. There was a huge queue for this tiny stand so it already got me curious!
Picture
I decided to buy a red shade as I never go for reds ever! I always resort to nudes so this time I was going to step out my comfort zone. I chose this gorgeous unusual shade called 'Cheerleader'. I find it really hard to explain the type of red it is and I don't think the picture does it justice but its a pretty plummy but kinda pinky colour?!

So, I put it to the test
+ When I applied it to my lips it was like silk. It just glided on with just one coat and didn't have to go over it a 2/3 times to build the colour. So thats already a thumbs up!
+ I thought I'd have to use a lip liner to define my lips but there was honestly no need. Looked perfect without it.
+ The applicator is shaped in a way that it makes it even easier to glide onto my lips.
+ Yes its a little pricey, but hey I think she gets away with it because its so popular right now. So really, £18 isn't that bad for a must-have beauty product of 2016.
- When I applied the lipstick on my hand, I found it really difficult to take off so I was like woah this must have so much staying-power that I wouldn't have to worry about reapplying throughout the day. However, as soon as I had something to eat, the lipstick in middle of my lips had disappeared but everything else stayed in tact. So the only criticism I am going to express is that the staying-power of this product wasn't as much as I thought it would be. Just a bowl of pasta wiped a lot of it off so unless you're planning to just drink something through a straw, you will probably have to reapply again after that.

Dior Make up Haul

5/9/2016

I've heard amazing things about Dior cosmetics (especially their foundations and eyeshadows) so I thought I'd treat myself and my kit with a few bits since I got myself a good deal since (a couple of products were christmas limited editions!)
Picture
1) Couture Creations Palette from the Dior Holiday Couture Collection (the big palette)
2) 508 'Nude Pink Design' 5 Couleurs Designer Eyeshadow Palette (left)
3) 758 'Golden Shock' 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette (right) - discontinued :(
4) '31 Sand' Dior Skin Forever Foundation
5) '002 Amber' Dior Skin Nude Tan Sun Powder
- Couture Creations Palette, 508 'Nude Pink Design' 5 Couleurs Designer + 758 'Golden Shock' 5 Eyeshadow Palettes
All I can say is WOW! I haven't got round to trying absolutely every shade from all 3 palettes but the ones I've tried so far are beyond pigmented! Im more of a fan of darker so thats always the biggest test when I'm searching for new eyeshadows, and all of them did not disappoint. My personal favourite is the dark purple from the Golden Shock palette, it comes out as such a rich dark purple colour - LOVE.
Just to show how great their pigment is I mixed and matched the shades from the shadow palettes in both pics
Picture
I wasn't quite sure how to use the sparkly eyeshadows because when I swatched them on my hand they came out quite subtle - I was really expecting them to be super bright and sparkly but I was disappointed. The trick is to use an eye primer/base first and then pat the shadow on again and again until its popping. I've used the gold one in the above pic.. was so much brighter in real life!
These palettes are perfect for bridal make up, the shades just blend so well and they go on so smoothly. The 'Nude Pink Design Palette' also comes with a deep purple cream base so you can really deepen any shade you want and make it so much more pigmented, can't wait to experiment with more colours!

Highlighter (from holiday palette)
Not a huge fan, too glittery for my liking. If only it didn't put huge glitter particles in there, it would have been a lovely everyday highlighter.

Lipsticks (from holiday palette)
I'm not too keen on one of the colours (reddy pink) but I can tell by just swatching it on my hand that its really moisturising and quite a nice everyday lipstick as it isn't too much in your face. Its from the 'Rouge' collection.

I don't wear much gloss but the gloss in this palette is something else! I don't know why it looks so amazing on as it just looks like any old lipgloss you could buy from Boots or Superdrug, but there is something about Dior Addict Gloss which has got me obsessed. Just wear it on its own, you'll see why!

- Dior Skin Forever Foundation
This stuff is like SILK in a bottle! it claims it leaves  'a luminous matte finish, flawless correction and exceptional comfort, in all conditions'. I 100% agree. As I've already mentioned my skin is going through a rough journey at the moment, so being a make up artist I need to find the best foundation thats ideal for my annoying skin at the moment. It really helps even out my  skin tone (due to acne scarring) without having to cake it on. Would definitely recommend for acne prone skin or to cover acne scars.
- Skin Nude Tan Sun Powder
I don't use blusher/bronzers these days because I really feels like it makes my spots look worse so I haven't tried it yet but I'm hoping to use it once my skin is a little more settled. Will review this product once I use it!

ReyAmore's Top Skincare Products

4/24/2016

I'm surprised I haven't blogged about skincare before! My skin has always been super sensitive and I'm going through a skin journey at the moment, but its really made me more careful of what skincare products I use on my clients.
SKINCARE! so in a nutshell- if you want your make up to sit well on your skin, last for longer and have a more of a flawless look, you need to make sure your pre-make up regime is on point.
All my clients have different skin types so the type of skincare products I use on them is so fundamental to how the make up is going to sit and how long it will stay for. So remember to LISTEN to your clients when they talk about their skin!
Below are the staple products I use on most of my clients:
Picture
1) Origins Make a Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Serum
I love the 'Make a Difference' range from Origins as I feel like it caters to all skin types. This serum especially helps  dehydrated/dry skin so I tend to use this on clients with that skin type (but it also works perfectly for normal skin!). I may skip this step if the person is more oily/combination. I love how it isn't too thick or creamy but it does exactly what I need it to do. It really helps protect the skin's natural moisture barrier making the make up appear smoother on the face. I leave this serum on the skin for a minute or so to let the skin absorb it before applying the next product.
2) Origins Make a Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Moisturiser
I actually use this face cream (but the one for oily skin) on myself hence I decided to put it in my kit! This stuff smells amazing and it has ingredients such as rose of jericho, lychee and watermelon to help calm the skin as well as keeping the skin nice and hydrated.
3) Smashbox Oil-free Pore Minimising Primer
LOVE all Smashbox primers!! I don't ever use anything else! Never ever apply foundation without this stuff, you will see a huge difference of how your skin looks and feels. If you haven't already, check out my previous blog post on 'The Power of Primers' and why I have used an orange to demonstrate why they are fundamental to make up application. http://www.reyamore.com/beauty-blog/the-power-of-primer
4) Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream
I always apply this cream after the eye make up has been applied and I leave it to absorb whilst I do the foundation. The reason why I love this eye cream is because it absorbs super fast which is handy when I have group bookings and every minute counts!, it has an inbuilt primer which is obviously amazing for smoothing out any lines underneath the eyes so the concealer sits so much better without any creases, the creamy texture means the area is deeply hydrated for the whole day. Read more about why we should eye creams on my previous blog post http://www.reyamore.com/beauty-blog/why-use-eye-cream
5) M.A.C. Prep + Prime Fix+ Spray
I could talk all day about this product! Its so multi-functional I can't imagine applying make up without it. This spray finishes the make up and keeps it in tact the whole day, helps any 'chalky/dry' looking make up look glowy and healthy looking, skin feels refreshed and hydrated and the smell is just divine! I also use this to make eyeshadow more pigmented by just spraying the brush beforehand.

5 Minute Smokey Eye Tutorial

4/13/2016

This will be the quickest smokey eye you'll ever attempt! Using only TWO colours, some eyeliner and mascara you'll be able to create this super easy look, and it won't look like its been done in 5 mins!
Like most make up artists, the most common question we get asked by clients is how to do a smokey eye. Well let me let you in on a secret.. theres more than one way and every make up artist will advise you to do it differently! Theres no right or wrong way.. just go with whatever makes you feel more comfortable (and more fabulous!)
I thought I'd put it in pictorial collage style for you so its easier to understand..
Picture
1.Use a flesh-coloured eye primer or concealer all over the lid going up to the brows
2. Using a deep brown shadow (I used one from Morphe palette 35c) and a eyeshadow-smudge/fluffy brush, sweep  back and forth in the crease, making sure you go all the way to your inner corners.
3. Using a dark colour (I have used black as I wanted my smokey eye to be intense) just pat that just on the lid with a flat eyeshadow brush (don't go above the lid).
4. Using the same fluffy brush you used for the brown, blend both colours until all harsh lines and gone.
5. Go back to your flat eyeshadow brush and go over the lid again with the black.
6. Using a pointed eyeshadow brush, sweep the shadow underneath the eye with the same brown colour.
7. I have used a black pencil liner (I have used M.A.C.'s new waterproof liner) but you can use brown if you prefer and apply really close to the bottom lash line all the way from outer to inner corner.
8. Lashes are optional (will probably take you another 5 mins) but a heavy load of mascara will also do the trick. Apply top as well as bottom.

Boom! x

Why Use An Eye Cream? Info and Eye Cream Reviews

4/11/2016

People often think eye creams are for  'older/mature women' or you should only start using it from the first signs of ageing - that's where you're wrong.
What are the benefits of eye creams and which ones really work?
I started using an eye cream a few years ago when I began working on skincare counters. I noticed I was selling them to a spectrum of women, not just the older ones. For that reason, as I reached my mid 20s, I started getting paranoid about my 'dark circles' (which probably didn't exist and all I needed was 8 hours of sleep every night!). I heard Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair eye serum was a popular one and it didn't just target fine lines and wrinkles, it also helped with dark circles and uneven skin tone which I was looking for.
I used it religiously day and night, and although I didn't see a difference with my dark circles immediately (which I knew would take some time) I instantly saw a difference in another way. Being a MUA, why have I never used eye cream before?! This stuff was a incredible and since then I have never turned back. Every day (day and night) without FAIL.
The benefit of using an eye cream/serum
- Instantly smoothes out your concealer. My make up has never been so long lasting until I started eye cream.I couldn't believe the difference and it just made me think what the hell I was doing without eye cream this whole time! Try it - you will see and feel the difference instantly! I recommend it to every client I come across.
- Concealer is less 'creasy' and dry looking underneath my eyes and I don't have to worry about reapplying.
- Remember, your under eye area is 10 times thinner than the rest of your skin on your face, therefore you have to treat is differently. Why do you think the first signs of ageing starts around your eyes? Keep that area hydrated at all times people!
- Over a period of time you do start noticing your dark circles lessen over time - thats if you buy one thats good quality and it targets dark circles. I felt like I didn't need to wear as much concealer!
- There are creams and serums, I personally prefer a cream as I like to keep my under eye area as hydrated as possible due to the nature of my job where I have to have a full face a make up everyday.
- HOWEVER, remember its not a magic cream! You still need your 8 hours sleep, drink plenty of water and eat healthy to stay looking refreshed and youthful!
Here are some eye creams/serums I've tried, see what they are and what I thought of them:

La Mer Eye Concentrate (£140)

Picture
- PRO - Probably the best eye cream out of the ones I've tried.
- PRO - Its light but creamy texture makes it easy to put all over the under eye area. You get a little applicator with it to massage and stimulate the area which feels good.
- PRO - I started noticing my dark circles were less after a month or so.
- PRO - Amazing underneath concealer, up until the tub finished.
- CON - The price!! for £140 for 15ml, you better make it last the whole year!!

Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus (£32.00)

Picture
- PRO - Texture is super creamy but not heavy. I can see this tub will last me a very long time. I never really buy anything from Clinique but I thought I'd give it a go. As I mentioned I like to have a creamier texture because of the amount of make up I have to wear. I didn't necessarily buy it for fine lines and wrinkles but lets see if it makes a difference! I just started using this last week so I'm unable to give a honest review just as yet, but so far so good! Will let you know in a month or two.
- PRO - Price! You know you're not breaking the bank with this one.

Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum (£46)

Picture
PRO - The thin texture means it was easier to glide on. A little went a long way!
- PRO - I absolutely fell in love with this when I first bought it, it really kept my under eye area hydrated all day and my concealer went on so smooth on top.
- PRO - Price. again its not that bad considering it would easily last you 6 months even if you used it day and night.
- CON - The reason why I didn't purchase it again once it ran out was because I felt like it stopped working after a few months. Eyes felt drier, my concealer would crease a lot more. Its like my skin became so immune to it that it just didn't work as well after a period of time. My sister also said the same thing.

The Power of Primer

3/20/2016

Generally, when I suggest a primer to customers when I'm working on counter, they always think I'm trying to sell to them but I promise you- I'M NOT.

For those who aren't sure what primers are used for, allow me to explain:
  •  It works as a base underneath your make up for a flawless smooth finish.
  • It makes your make up last the entire day (SO important for when I'm getting my brides ready!)
  •  There are several primers on the market that work for specific needs such as oily/dry skin, uneven skin tone and textured skin, redness, skin that has more visible pores, smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles.
  • You can find them in different consistencies: gel, cream and powder
  •  My personal favourites are the Smashbox primers.. their range is incredible and works so well! I'm slowly going through all of them, but so far I'm really liking the pore-minimising one, it works wonders for large pores as well as fine lines and wrinkles.

Some time ago I took a picture of make up with and without primer. Even though I could definitely see the difference when looking in the mirror, my pictures didn't do it any justice so I decided not to post it. However, my cousin sent me an image of someone demonstrating the power of primers in such a unique and creative way, I just had to try it myself and show you guys!
Picture

I have used an oil-free medium coverage foundation for this. Notice the HUGE difference between both sides. The primer side (left) looks smoother and less textured. The other side looks porous and a lot more textured. An orange resembles the texture of human skin quite well, thats why I thought this picture would be so effective. You can see how the primer covers and helps smooth out areas of the face which foundation/concealer/powder may not be able to reach.
If you've never tried a primer before, I suggest you go to your nearest make up counter and ask for a sample- you will see the results immediately

Ciao!
